About Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal (also known as Kodai) is a delightful little hill station located in the Palni Hills, Western Ghats in South India at an elevation of 2,195 m.

Established by American missionaries in 1845 as a refuge from the tropical temperatures of the plains, Kodai has since developed into a popular tourist and holiday destination.

Climate

Kodai has a temperate subtropical climate owing to its high altitude. The temperature varies from moderate to quite cool, ranging from 11 - 20°C (52 - 68°F) during summer and 8 - 17°C(46 - 63°F) during winter. It is not uncommon in January to see thin ice on the lake edges as night temperatures sometimes drop to freezing.

The average rainfall is 1650 mm, mostly during the North East retreating monsoon from June to September.
